Due to the recent weather we decided not to hold the competition at the club field, but it went ahead at Whin Cover Farm instead on the 6th April ’24.
A great turnout for our first show of this year’s dressage series, which are held on the first Saturday of each month over spring/summer (see our events page).
Thank you to all who attended, and to our Chair Sue for hosting. A great day had by all.
Coming up soon we have a talk with Ann Featherstone on endurance riding. Ever fancied giving it a go or would like to see what it’s all about? Come along to find out! See our ‘Events’ page for more info.
What is Endurance Riding?
“Come along and find out all about the basics of endurance riding and how accessible it is for all riders.
As long as your horse is sound and you enjoy hacking you’ll like endurance.
The talk will give you a brief overview of Endurance, the different rides, equipment and what happens at a ride.
We will also talk about the Endurance Riding Club Championship which takes place each year and if you’re part of a riding club you can join in.”
~ Ann Featherstone, North & East Yorkshire Group of Endurance
Important especially if you take part, or are hoping to take part in any of our team events.
Following advice from British Equestrian, BRC will be amending the intervals of new or restarting flu vaccination courses from 1 January 2024. Vaccinations that are up to date and correct are not altered by this change, only courses starting after 1 January 2024 are affected.
Important reminder that 2024 is a leap year and whilst they are not counted for annual vaccinations, the extra day must be considered for the primary course (V1 – V3).
Other vaccination rules will remain the same. Full details will be found in the 2024 Handbook when available.
Vaccination courses started before 1 January 2024 may follow either of the intervals set out below.
On Saturday 25th November, some of our members visited Yearsley Woods for a group hack.
We were so lucky to get some sunshine!
Info on the YDRC Hacking Group…
The point of this group is to meet other people in YDRC, while exploring a new route with your horse! We look after each other, and stay at a pace we are all happy with.
As the group grows, we will be doing rides for those who like to go faster, and those who like to go at a steadier pace.
We hope the group will encourage new friendships within the club, giving you more people to ride with.
The rides are completely free (aside from course hire, etc where you’d pay the venue’s normal rate).
We are planning to go to lots of local places together – Escrick park, Redcar beach, Skipwith Common, Myton-On-Swale, Fountains Abbey etc.. But we’ll also occasionally meet at member’s yards (where possible), so they can show us their favourite route!
Usually a limit of 4 horses/riders per ride.
Would you like to join us next time….?
Anyone/everyone is welcome to join our hacking group.
Please be aware that although the hacks are being organised for YDRC members, you are hacking at your own risk – just as you would outside of the club. YDRC cannot take any responsibility for accidents etc.
If you’d like to take part, Email Amy on amyfwaite@gmail.com
When: 17th November at 7.30pm Where: Melodies Park in York (YO32 2RJ) Price: Only £12 per ticket, to include food!
We are really excited for our evening talk with Cooper Wilson – not long to go now!
If you’re considering coming along, make sure you get your ticket before 13th Nov.
To book, please text Dawn on 07929965268 or Julie on 07787327562.
You’ll need to let us know what you’d like to eat, too – the choices are as follows: – Jacket potato + Chicken Tikka – Jacket potato + Vegetarian Chilli – Jacket potato + Cheese and Coleslaw
You do not have to be a club member to come to this event!
On Sunday 5th November, the riding club’s first group hack went ahead!
A few YDRC members met up in Easingwold, and rode around Crayke, a very pretty neighbouring village.
We were so lucky to get some great weather! And of course, what hack would be complete without a cup of coffee and a bit of cake afterwards?

We are considering running ‘organised hacks’ with the members of the club.
These would be for a small amount of riders for each hack (3/4 people each ride).
The idea is for someone to volunteer to ‘host’ the hack – the host must have space at their home/yard for others to come along, and the host takes the other riders round their favourite local hacking route. OR if you don’t have space at home but know a great place where a hack could meet, this could be an option also (IE Redcar beach).
This will be completely free, and hopefully a good social event for anyone to get involved in.
If you’d like to try being a ‘host’, or if you’re interested in attending a hack please Email the club on ydrcnewsletter@gmail.com and let us know you’d be interested in our ‘organised hacking’ idea… We’ll do the rest!
